A Message from Father George Khitiri
May 22, 2020

Dear Parishioners,

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well. As we celebrate the Feast day of our Patron Saints Constantine and Helen, I pray that, through their intercessions, God will protect and deliver us from all danger and distress. I also wish all of our beloved parishioners who celebrate their name day many years.

As we meditate upon this great Feast, the first thing that comes to mind is the sign of the Holy Cross. As we all know, Saint Constantine saw a vision of the Cross while in battle, proclaiming the words “In this sign conquer.” Later, his mother, Saint Helen, discovered the most Precious and Holy Cross. In iconography, the two are often pictured together at the foot of the Cross. We are all called to find joy in bearing our own crosses, as these saints exemplify. Oftentimes, our crosses seem to heavy and difficult to carry. We may share Christ’s moment of agony on the Cross and question why God has forsaken us. If we trust in God’s Providence as Christ did, we may discover the transformative power of the Cross. It is through the Holy Cross that joy and salvation enter the world and our enemies are scattered. Let us bring all our fears, concerns, and anxieties to the foot of the Cross, so that we may receive the power to transform our woes into a glorious witness to the power of God.

On a separate note, in regard to the reopening of the church, I unfortunately do not yet have an exact date. Please rest assured that I am in constant contact and currently working with the parish council and executive board, as well as with the Metropolitan, and we are working tirelessly to come up with a safe plan for reopening. As developments arise, I will share them with you all.

Again, χρόνια πολλά to you all. May God continue to bless us all.

In Christ’s service,

Father George
