Ss Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 510 Linden Place, Orange, NJ
Ss Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church was organized in 1916 by a handful of Greek immigrants who originally had services held at Regan's Hall on Main Street in Orange, NJ. Around 1922 the church moved to a small frame building on Main Street and Bell Street which served as the community's church. It remained at this location for approximately 35 years. In 1956 a lot was purchased on Linden Place and construction was begun in the summer of the same year. Construction was completed in June 1957 and in September 1957 the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the new church by Father George Mamangakis. The church was consecrated on Sunday, May 27, 1962 by His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos. Holy Relics of St. Euphemia were deposited in the altar at that time.
Ss Nicholas, Constantine, and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Roseland is a parish that grew out of the 1998 merger of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Newark (circa 1901) and Ss Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Orange (circa 1910). Ss Nicholas, Constantine, and Helen is the mother church of the Metropolis of New Jersey which spans the northeastern states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.
In 2005, seven years after the merger efforts began the towns of Roseland and Livingston granted approval to begin construction and ground was broken in the fall of 2005. Only six years later on September 25, 2011 the Blessing of the Doors occurred and the Greek Orthodox community of Ss Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Roseland was born. The complete complex cost over $17 million.
